Four wickets in 12 balls by former Black Cap Jeetan Patel has launched his Warwickshire county side into the Royal London One-Day Cup final.

The 36-year-old off-spinner took 5-43 (all LBW) to restrict Somerset to 276-9 in their 50 overs, eight runs short of what would have been a thrilling victory at Edgbaston.

After choosing to bat, the home side amassed 284-4, thanks to Ian Bell's unbeaten 94 and 86 from Sam Hain.

In reply, Peter Trego smashed a half-century to take Somerset to 145 for three before the innings was hit by four wickets, all lbw, in 12 balls from Patel.

The New Zealander returned later in the innings to end a thrilling counter-attack from Ryan Davies, with yet another lbw decision, for a fifth wicket.

Warwickshire will now face Surrey in the final at Lord's on September 17.

Patel played 19 Tests for New Zealand before committing to Warwickshire in 2014.
