Away from the ring and out of the spotlight, there are two special people who can also share the glory after Joseph Parker's WBO heavyweight world championship win.

The only people happier about Parker's win than Jospeh himself may just be his parents, Sala and Dempsey Parker.

It was Sala's first-ever time in the ring, but it came with a special condition.

"I said, 'Son, I'm not coming into that ring until you have that world title belt around your waist,' and I guess he challenged himself so that I can get into the ring and celebrate together with him."

The celebrations continued well into the night, both here in New Zealand and 30,000km away in Samoa, where Parker has his roots.

Dempsey expressed his gratefulness to all his son's supporters both here and in Samoa.

"Joseph done it for us. So I would like to say thank you so much," he said.

"I said to Joseph, 'You deserve to hold that title of WBO because you work hard for it.'"
