Kiwis test debut for Ma'u and Watene-Zelezniak

Kiwis test debut for Ma'u and Watene-Zelezniak

Two rising stars will make their debut for the Kiwis in Newcastle on Friday night.

The path to the Test couldn't be more different for Manu Ma'u and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

In 2008, Ma'u was watching the World Cup from a prison cell. He was jailed for assault in 2007.

"It's been a long journey," Ma'u says, but he'll be playing for his family back home and his friends still on the inside.

Ma'u's known for his on-field aggression, which he knows he will have to channel in the right way when he plays against the Kangaroos on Friday night.

Meanwhile his club, the Parramatta Eels, is dealing with the fallout from the salary cap scandal.

Ma'u says being away from the club is "really tough".

The Kiwis newcomer will be debuting alongside Watene-Zelezniak.

For Watene-Zelezniak, it's "a big moment" for him and his family.

The 20-year-old's missed three major tests, stymied by injury and riled out by a suspension. This time, though, he's determined to make his debut.

The Kiwis will be facing the Kangaroos in the ANZAC test on Friday.
