Kiwi Lydia Ko has produced a dramatic victory at the latest LPGA tournament in Ohio, prevailing in a tense playoff.

Ko finished the four rounds on 14 under par, level with Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn and South Korean Mirim Lee, forcing the trio into what would become a multiple extra hole shootout at the aptly named Marathon Classic.

With her place as the figure head of the New Zealand Olympic golf team confirmed while she was on course, the World number one put together an erratic final round. Starting the day three strokes off the pace, four birdies on the front nine saw Ko clear out to a three shot lead.

But a bogey on the 16th hole proved costly, a 2 under 69 wasn't enough to hold off the late challenges from Lee and Jutanugarn.

It was supposed to be a sudden death playoff but it become more of a slow and agonising one, as the trio couldn't be separated for three extra holes.

But the 19 year old Kiwi held her nerve to birdie the fourth hole while her rivals crumbled, to secure her 19th professional title.
