Leading New Zealand doubles player Michael Venus is going deep at another ATP tennis tournament, battling into the semi-finals at the Stockholm Open.

Venus and his Croatian partner Mate Pavic survived a taxing quarter-final, beating Swedish wildcards Isak Arvidsson and Fred Simonsson 6-4 3-6 10-8.

It sets up a showdown with the top seeds, Brazilian veterans Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares, who are both ranked in the top seven in the world.

Venus, ranked 38th, has enjoyed a steady diet of success this year with Pavic.

The pair have reached seven finals and won four of them.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's Artem Sitak and his American partner Nicholas Monroe were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the European Open in Antwerp, beaten 6-0 6-4 by third seeds Olivier Marach and Fabrice Martin.
