New Zealand's Paralympic team are meeting at Auckland Airport as they make a triumphant homecoming from their successful campaign in Rio.

The 31-strong team has won 21 medals at the Games, exceeding its target of 18. Rio equals the 1996 Atlanta Games as New Zealand's most successful Paralympics.

They won nine golds, five silvers and seven bronzes.

China tops the medal count with 237 and New Zealand sits in 13th place.

The team will be at a welcome home event on Friday at AUT Millenium stadium on Auckland's North Shore.
