NZ Breakers woes all mental according to coach Paul Henare

Breakers coach Paul Henare has attributed the team's recent woes to anxiety and an inability to cope with pressure on the court.

The team has lost four in a row and currently sit at the bottom of the NBL table.

"A lot of it is mental right now and I mentioned the anxiety that can creep in when you get put under pressure," Henare said.

"It's alarming for me to say that especially with the experienced group that we have. These guys have been around a long long time but they're human."

The team has started matches well but they've continued to let errors creep into their game.

"We started off really well.

"We stuck to the game plan nice and early and you can see it in the guys when things started to go wrong. The anxiety crept in and then we had far too many breakdowns in our structure and that’s just unacceptable."

Henare took complete ownership for the way the team had played in recent games.

"It's on me and on us as a group to be a bit more harsh in terms of when we have those breakdowns and hold those accountable."

The 37-year-old flagged potential changes to the starting line-up but he said it wasn't because of those errors.

"[We're] definitely looking at possible personnel changes in the starting line-up, not out of any sort of punishment or anything but looking at our rotations and how it happens throughout the course of the game and whether a change of starting line-up can help those rotations through the game."

After their fifth road trip across the ditch in a row, the Breakers face Brisbane in Auckland on Thursday.

They then head back over to Adelaide for Saturday's match against the 36ers.
