Fresh from her success at the Rio Games, New Zealand's most decorated Paralympian is taking on a mentoring role with younger athletes.

Twenty-three-year-old Sophie Pascoe says that after going to three Games, she feels responsible for the newer competitors.

"You do have that role of helping the other athletes, and especially your first-time athletes. So I was definitely on call any time they wanted to come and speak to me."

The Paralympics veteran says each of the three she's been to have been very different. When she was 19 at the London Games she felt expectation after her success as a 15-year-old athlete at Beijing.

"I went into that Games really excited. And then growing another four years going to this Games I was really mission-focused."

She told Paul Henry she thinks Paralympic sports will grow after the success of Rio.

"I mean, coming home with 21 medals as a team, nine of them gold, it's fantastic to see that it's only going to get bigger and bigger, and Tokyo's going to put on a fantastic Games and these athletes are going to grow from these experiences."
