The Crusaders have secured the services of All Blacks midfielder Seta Tamanivalu for the 2017 Super Rugby season.

Tamanivalu enjoyed a breakout year with the Chiefs in 2016, but has opted to head south for what will be his third season in the tournament.

Head coach Scott Robertson is delighted with the acquisition.

"Seta is such an impressive player, and will add some real power and strength to our backline in 2017," said Robertson.

"He is exactly the sort of player we have been looking for to complement our squad, so we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board."

Tamanivalu burst on to the New Zealand rugby scene in 2013, named National Player of the Year in the provincial competition in 2014 before earning an All Blacks call up this year for the series against Wales.

"I am grateful for my time at the Chiefs and everything I have learned there, but this is a fantastic opportunity for me to develop in a different environment," the 24-year-old said.

"I have long respected the Crusaders as a highly driven and successful team, so I am excited to be a part of that next year."
