Minister for Sport and Recreation Jonathan Coleman has moved to assure New Zealanders that Kiwi athletes are not caught up in any drug cheating.

Speaking to Andrew Gourdie and James McOnie on RadioLIVE's Sunday Sport, Dr Coleman said New Zealand athletes are clean and that the right steps are in place to ensure that New Zealand athletes are not affected.

"We vigorously test our athletes and we also make sure the system that they are tested under is open to objective, outside scrutiny," he said.

"New Zealanders can have every bit of confidence in the New Zealand system.

"There is the full range of temptation dangled before them and we have to make sure - largely through education as well as testing - that our athletes right into the future are clean, but importantly, think about the temptation in the first place."
