High-flying Polish tennis player Jerzy Janowicz has confirmed his entry in the Heineken Open in Auckland.

World No.26 Janowicz raised eyebrows when he went on a giant-killing run to the final of last month's Paris Masters, where he fell to the man who will be top seed in Auckland, Spain's David Ferrer.

Five top-20 players were dispatched by the 22-year-old qualifier in Paris, including US Open champion Andy Murray.

It further boosted the ranking of Janowicz, who was a lowly 220th in the world just a year ago.

Heineken Open tournament director Karl Budge says much interest will surround whether the 2.03m Pole can reproduce the same form in Auckland from January 7.

"Janowicz has had one of those seasons that most players only dream about," Budge said.

"Players outside the top 50 simply don't make the finals of masters level events. You only need to look at how long it took Ferrer to win one to see how treasured they are."
