Tottenham's faint title hopes were left dangling by a thread after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Bromwich Albion.

Coming into the match eight points adrift of leaders Leicester City, Spurs needed a win to keep the pressure on.

Spurs grabbed the lead 33 minutes into the game when West Brom defender Craig Dawson turned a dangerous Christian Eriksen free-kick into his own net.

However, despite hitting the post three times, Spurs never shut the visitors out of the contest and Dawson made amends for his earlier mistake when he rose highest in the box to turn home a corner.

Leicester can lift the Premier League title with a win against Manchester United at Old Trafford next week.

With three matches remaining Leicester have 76 points with Tottenham, the only side who can deny them the title, on 69.

Manchester City and Arsenal have 64.

"It was very frustrating," Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters. "It was a game we had to win.

"The first half we played very well but we spent a lot of energy to make it 1-0 and in the second half we lost a bit of control of the game and that allowed them to believe."

Asked if Tottenham had blown their title chances, the Argentine added: "It's not over, the gap is seven points and we have three games left. But it's true it's very difficult."
