David Tua says he's taking his next fight to his backyard in South Auckland as a tribute to his fans.

His opponent though is a journeyman American boxer who's lost more than he's won.

The tagline is 'David Tua's Backyard Brawl'. He'll fight on March 19 at TelstraClear stadium in Manukau.

His opponent, American Demetrice King has 15 wins and 19 losses, and just one win in has last five.

King has at least fought contenders like Shannon Briggs and Michael Grant.

The fight is the last under the deal he struck with Maori Television.

Inga Tuigamala is promoting the fight for his friend and relative, confident he can fill the stadium with 3000 mostly Polynesian fans.

"Tua's catering to his young support base in South Auckland, and he'll target ticket sales at its large families," he says.

Sources tell 3 News a family of six could see the fight for around $150 dollars. His management says the fight isn't about making money.

Tua is recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in training but is confident he'll be ready come March.

"I'm good, I'm almost as good as you, I'm hangin' in there, brother."
Hanging in for another world title fight once this one's out of the way.
