Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has become a hero outside the octagon after coming to the aid of six-year-old girl and her family.

While hiking the mountains around Las Vegas, Tate came across a mother struggling to carry her distressed daughter, Kai, who had broken her arm at the top of the track.

The 30-year-old didn’t hesitate in offering a helping hand to the 'meekly built' mother, taking the wounded girl in her arms and carting her the remaining 4.2km worth of trail to her vehicle, where she was whisked away to hospital for medical attention.

"I saw her meekly built mother struggling to carry her daughter down the mountain so I offered to carry the little girl to the bottom," Tate posted to her Facebook page.

"The mother asked her 6-year-old daughter 'would you rather have me or her carry you down' without hesitation (to my surprise) she quickly replied ‘I want HER to carry me.’"

Tate later shared a thank you video from Kai on her Instagram, along with a firm message for those who challenged her femininity due to her muscular build.

"I also want to make a point that I have been told many times that I am ‘too buff’ or ‘manly’ that I should stop lifting weights, that it’s 'gross' and not attractive for a woman. I am so happy I never listened to the limitations others wanted to put on me and I hope that our youth knows that don’t have to conform. That strength and beauty come from within!"

Incidently it's not her first act of plain-clothes heroism, having once resuscitated the mother of her partner, fellow UFC fighter Bryan Caraway, following a boating incident in 2014.

Tate had a brief reign as the UFC's bantamweight champion after a stunning last minute defeat of Ronda Rousey-conqueror Holly Holm, before losing to Amanda Nunes in her maiden defence of the title at UFC 200 in July. Her next opponent is yet to be named.
