In just another day in the life of Conor McGregor, the Irish UFC superstar has been granted a professional boxing license in California..

Californian State Athletic Commision executive officer Andy Foster confirmed to MMAFighting.com that McGregor was officially on their books.

"He got a license today and a federal ID," said Foster.

"He's a Californian boxer."

Last month, McGregor added to his UFC Featherweight title by defeating Eddie Alvarez and claiming the Lightweight belt, becoming the first UFC fighter to hold them both at the same time.

However, McGregor relinqished his Featherweight belt last week after failing to defend the title. McGregor has since refused to comment on being stripped of the belt, but a foray into boxing might explain why he's broken character and stayed silent on losing it.

Foster also said that they were happy to give a boxing license to one of the more polarising figures in MMA.

"He's qualified [as a boxer]. I'd love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent. Certainly a high-level opponent. We're happy to license him. We're happy he's a California fighter."

The 28 year-old showed against Eddie Alvarez in November that he'd be more than capable with the gloves on after tormenting Alvarez with his jab.

The development adds more fuel to the rumours that an unlikely fight between McGregor and retired boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather will take place in the USA in what would be one of the most anticipated fights this decade.
