Video: All Blacks Aaron Cruden and Sam Cane - Extended Interview

All Blacks Sam Cane and Aaron Cruden are no strangers to an All Black camp, but can't deny that some noticeable absentees have given the latest proceedings a different feel.

"Not just Richie (McCaw) but guys who have been here 10-plus years are not here this time," noted Cane.

"But it's a great opportunity for other leaders and other players to step up and fill those shoes."

First-five Aaron Cruden hasn't worn a Black jersey since last 2014 after an injury during last year's Super Rugby season putting a cruel end to his World Cup aspirations, and is brushing off any suggestion that he may be the incumbent First-five in the squad.

"For me coming back in, whether my role's in the starting fifteen, on the bench, or not even in the match-day 23, I just want to make sure I contribute to ultimately the team getting a result each and every game," said the Chiefs pivot.

Cane acknowledged the fierce competition for the All Black loose forward jerseys with the incoming breed of electric newcomers, spearheaded by Hurricanes juggernaut Ardie Savea.

"They're pretty exciting loose forwards.

"Extremely athletic, big work rates, it will be interesting and exciting to see how they go in this environment and I'm sure they step up."

Goal-kicking is one clear 'work-on' for Cruden, the 27-year-old well aware of his struggles this season off the tee .

"I have missed a few more than I would like.

"It's just about getting back and really focusing and knuckling down on my processes, then getting excited about the opportunity to get out there and goal-kick.

"I know I definitely will improve and get better in that area."
