There were tears and tributes for New Zealand footballing great Steve Sumner in Christchurch today.
The former All Whites captain who's battling advanced prostate cancer was on hand to see the "Steve Sumner Stand" unveiled at English Park, the home of mainland Football.
There was a huge turnout of former players, friends and family for the occasion and many spoke of an inspirational leader, an uncompromising footballer and a loving family man.
Sumner's health has deteriorated since his prognosis but he says he will fight it all the way, even though he's been told he has months not years left.
