For Black Ferns prop Aldora Itunu, playing for her country means showing her hard, uncompromising side.

But off the field Itunu has a much softer side, and that's evident when you see her at work, where she's focused on helping transform the lives of Kiwi kids.

Itunu works for the Graeme Dingle Foundation, which is all about inspiring New Zealand children to reach their full potential through programmes that help build self-esteem and promote food values.

"I remember the first day I came here, there were a few kids that really stood out to me," says Ituna.

"Just seeing the progress is just really heart-warming - makes me enjoy what I do just seeing them blossom and develop."

But this is only one of Itunu's teams. The 25-year-old plays rugby at the highest level as a prop for the Black Ferns.

After making her debut last year, she now has five caps to her name.

"It's been such a dream come true," says Ituna.

"I remember back in school I didn't even know what I wanted to be, but I just knew I wanted to wear the black jersey."

Now she's back in school - this time using her experiences as an example of what hard work can achieve.

"I just love being around kids," says Ituna.

"You could have the hardest days, but then to come back and see them smile really brings you back down to earth and makes you realise there's more to life."

Ituna is currently in Europe with the Black Ferns on their northern tour. The Black Ferns beat England this morning 25-20 and will face Canada on November 24 and Ireland on November 28.
