A knee in the back at the conclusion of the first quarter of an AFL game caused a fiery clash between Geelong and Port Adelaide players last night.

The conflict flared up as Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield was caught at the bottom of his back by a reckless challenge from Tom Jonas after the siren had sounded, with swarms of players from each team rushing from all directions to get involved.

The heated melee lasted over a minute, with players receiving punches, pushed against fences, having their singlets torn and being dragged to the ground before walking down the tunnel to their respective dressing rooms.

Geelong, who were trailing by 24 points after the first quarter, seemed to be buoyed by the altercation, ultimately winning the game 107-58.
