Dirk Kuyt scored a hat-trick as Manchester United's title challenge was dealt a major setback after a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on this morning.
Kuyt put the home side in control late in the first half with goals in the 34th and 39th minutes before scoring his third in the 65th.
Substitute Javier Hernandez scored a consolation goal for the visitors in stoppage time.
With nine games remaining, United still tops the standings with 60 points, but Arsenal, who have a game in hand, are second with 57.
Andy Carroll, Liverpool's record 35 million pounds signing from Newcastle in January, made his debut when he came on as a 74th-minute substitute.
After its midweek loss to Chelsea, United has lost back-to-back league games for the first time in two years.
