Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso captured the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix in a tactical battle on Sunday.

Alonso took the chequered flag at the Shanghai International circuit just over 10 seconds ahead of Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen to give Formula One a third different winner in three races.

Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes just held off a late charge by Red Bull’s three-time reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel for third place following his similar finish at the Malaysian GP.

Jenson Button (McLaren) was fifth followed by Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso), Paul Di resta (Force India), Romain Grosjean (Lotus) and Nico Huelkenberg (Sauber).

In a tactical race dominated by tyre and pit stop strategy, Alonso emerged as likely winner for the first time this season after his last tyre change with 14 laps to go.

Alonso then soon got past race leader Vettel, who still needed another pit stop to change to soft tyres, and it was left to the Spaniard to control the rest of a race, which had seen several different leaders.
