Conor McGregor has beaten Nate Diaz in the highly anticipated rematch at UFC 202 held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Irishman won the bout after five intense rounds of action.

The event was the first under the new WME-IMG ownership, who purchased the UFC brand for more than $4 billion in the largest transaction for a single franchise in sports history.

Two of the judges had the fight scored at 48-47 to McGregor, while the other scored the fight 47-47.

McGregor dropped Diaz to the canvas three times in the opening two rounds but did not pounce on his grounded opponent.

Diaz then fought his way back into the match as McGregor began to tire as the fight progressed.

Both fighters started to show fatigue in the fourth round as blood continued to come from Diaz's right eyebrow and McGregor's head.

Diaz scored his only takedown of the bout in the fifth round, moments before the final bell.

He helped McGregor up at the conclusion of the bout, and the two quickly hugged.

Diaz landed 271 total strikes compared with 190 for McGregor. Diaz attempted 446 strikes, and McGregor attempted 313.

After the fight McGregor announced "the king is back".
