Liverpool have trashed Hull City at Anfield off the back of two spot-kick goals form James Milner and a majestic performance from Phillipe Coutinho.

The Mersysiders put five goals past Hull, who were reduced to 10-men when Ahmed Elmohamady was sent of midway through the first-half for handball.

Adam Lallana got the home side off to a strong start, scoring 15 minutes in and after Milner scored from the penalty spot 10 minutes later the result was never in doubt.

A pile driver of a strike from Sadio Mane saw a deserved 3-0 half-time lead and left the visitors demoralised with seemingly no hope.

A David Meyler header gave Hull that glimmer they were looking for five minutes into the second spell, but Coutinho crushed any hope of a famous comeback with a trademark strike from 30 yards to cap an outstanding individual display.

Milner sealed the deal for Liverpool with another penalty 20 minutes from time after substitute Daniel Sturridge was brought down in the box.

Liverpool jump into the top four with the win, five points behind leaders Manchester City who remained perfect with a 3-1 win at Swansea.

Hull Coty slip to 12th with seven points from six games.
