A lacklustre performance from Manchester United has been punished by Feyenoord as the Dutch side ran out 1-0 winners in their opening Europa League game.

Tonny Vilhena smashed home the winner for the hosts in the second half after Nicolai Jorgensen had the sense to drag the ball back with a low cross.

The defeat means Man United have now lost five and drawn one of their last six European away trips.

Jose Mourinho made eight changes to his side that lost to Manchester City 2-1 five days earlier, but failed to get a response from his troops.

Feyenoord's Australian keeper Brad Jones was rarely tested by any meaningful efforts.

In that same Group A, minnows Zorya were held 1-1 by defiant Fenerbahce.
