Taranaki have beaten Hawke's Bay 55-28 in a match which saw them outscoring their opponents seven tries to four.

Magpies centre Jonah Lowe crossed for the opening try after being put into space out wide.

Hawke's Bay then extended the lead after captain Ash Dixon intercepted the ball in the in-goal area.

Taranaki scored their first try minutes before the halftime siren, as their captain Mitchell Croswell pushed his way over under the posts.

However, it wasn't enough, and Hawke's Bay led 14-10 at the break.

Taranaki opened up the scoreboard in the second half after scoring three tries in eight minutes.

The first came from Iopu Iopu-Aso, who picked the ball up from the back of the scrum and barged his way over.

Then hooker Rhys Marshall snuck over, right under the sticks.

Taranaki's Manasa Mataele followed this up, after he busted straight through the Magpies' defence to claim the bonus point try.

Hawke's Bay then got one back through Ihia West, after he kicked to himself to bring the Bay back into it.

Taranaki's Marty McKenzie, Declan O' Donnell and Trinity Spooner-Neera all scored tries in the final 17 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Magpies lock Geoffrey Cridge scored a consolation try for the away side.

Taranaki will face fellow Premiership side Tasman next week, while Hawke's Bay will host Counties-Manukau, who they beat 35-11 last season.
