The Western Sydney Wanderers are into the A-League final, completing an astonishing comeback to win 5-4 against the Brisbane Roar after trailing 3-0.

Winger Romeo Castelen instigated the comeback, scoring a hat-trick that prevented the Roar cruising to what seemed like a certain victory in the semifinal.

Brisbane had earlier scored three goals in the space of six minutes after a sloppy handball handed them a penalty in just the 16th minute, Dimitri Petratos placing the spot-kick high into the roof of the net.

More poor defending from Western Sydney saw the Roar double their advantage just minutes later, Andreu Guerao heading into his own net from a Corona free-kick – but it was to get even worse.

A long, hopeful ball found a Brisbane player on the wing, and the eventual cross landed at the feet of Jamie Maclaren in the box, who swivelled before getting a huge slice of luck with a deflected shot that looped over Wanderers keeper Andrew Redmayne.

Western Sydney, at that stage, looked dead and buried – but Castelen slotted a wonderful free-kick through the Brisbane wall to get his side back in the contest.

Brendon Santalab then cut Brisbane's lead to a solitary goal, running onto a lofted through-ball to score – before Castelen tied it up after finding the ball at his feet just three metres out to finish off a scrappy goal.

And then, incredibly, they went 4-3 in front of their home fans – Castelen again the scorer as his sweetly struck shot from the edge of the box found its way past the outstretched glove of Jamie Young in the Roar goal.

The Roar were by no means out of the match though, and they equalised through Maclaren, who had run onto a shot-come-cross from Henrique, taking the game to extra-time.

The Western Sydney Wanderers would have the final say however, Young doing enough to keep out Dario Vidosic's first, curled effort – but having no chance as the Australian tapped in a grounded cross from just a metre out.

The Wanderers will now meet Adelaide United in the A-League Grand Final, after they won their game against Melbourne City 4-1.
