Russian 4x400m women's champions all shared kisses on the podium when celebrating their gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.

Controversy has surrounded the event in Moscow ever since pole-vaulter Yelena Isinbeyava supported Russia's new anti-gay law.

The kisses between the runners appears to have violated a new Russia law passed in June, banning gay and lesbian 'propoganda'.

It comes after Isinbeyava stated she was against the promotion of gay rights, after a Swedish athlete posted a photo of her rainbow painted fingernails on Instagram.

Isinbayeva came out to clarify her comments, and said she doesn't discriminate against gays and lesbians.

Swedish high jumper Emma Green Tregaro changed her nails from rainbow coloured to all red before hitting the field on the final day, saying red was the colour of love.
