Stan Wawrinka's spoilt the ambitions of Novak Djokovic, who was looking to complete a career Grand Slam at the French Open in Paris.

The Swiss eighth seed hit flat ground strokes and used his one handed backhand to devastating effect to wear down the world number one 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 and claim his second major title after taking the Australian Open last year.

Wawrinka's now the second man to win the juniors and the men's title in Paris since Mats Wilander achieved the double in 1988.

For so long living in Roger Federer's shadow, the Swiss No.2 has now joined his superstar countryman, as well as Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray as only the fifth man in the past decade to snare multiple majors.

After being denied by Nadal in the 2012 and 2014 finals, as well as in three semis and a quarter-final over the years, Wawrinka crushed Djokovic's hopes of completing a career Grand Slam.
