It's one of Australia's biggest sporting battles and is just as loved on this side of the Tasman.

State of Origin rivalries resume tonight in Melbourne - with Queensland favoured to win an unprecedented seventh straight series.

Former Queensland and Warriors great Steve Price spoke to Firstline this morning, saying he expects a close match.

“Game one’s always a very tough, close game. There’s nothing between the sides and particularly with New South Wales, the team they’ve chosen, [Queensland will be] a bit wary of the team they’ve chosen.”

Despite not winning a series since 2005, Price thinks the blues have been unlucky to lose as many games as they have.

“New South Wales haven’t been too far off it in the last few years, you look at all the games and there’s probably been short periods in games where [Queensland] have been able to score points and that’s probably because of the belief and the mateship that our boys have been able to grow,” Price says.

The Warriors legend believes the gameplan for both teams will be simple.

“It’s gonna be possession and field position.”
