Kiwi basketballer Steven Adams is just one day away from being picked up in the NBA draft for 2013.

Adams spoke to media a day before the draft and says he is proud to be representing New Zealand on the world stage.

"It's pretty weird, I haven't really thought about it, I'm pretty honoured," Adams says.

He says he is happy to be the face of New Zealand basketball as his star continues to rise.

"All I'm trying to do is make sure people know in New Zealand we got some basketball players and they get some exposure," he says.

Adams' profile has been boosted with his inclusion in the 'green room', a select group included in the live broadcast draft.

Many draft analysis websites have Adams sitting comfortably in their top 20 and although a green room invite is no guarantee of selection in the draft, it is considered a good indication.

The draft is held over two rounds, with 60 players selected. If selected, Adams will become the third New Zealander to play in the NBA.

Adams is half-brother to Olympic and world shot put champion Valerie Adams.
