Video: Steven Adams inspired by sister's Olympian efforts

Kiwi NBA star Steven Adams needs look no further than the family tree when it comes to sources of inspiration.

The Oklahoma City Thunder center, back on home soil to run a series of basketball camps around the country, gushed with praise when asked about his sister Valerie Adams' silver-medal winning efforts in Rio.

"Course I did," exclaimed Adams when asked if he'd watched his sister compete.

"I got a little emotional. It's awesome, it's really awesome."

Adams had a chance to travel to Europe last year to observe her preparations for the Diamond League and was taken aback by her approach to competition.

"I thought I worked hard, a lot of people say I do as well. But just seeing her work, it's a whole another level.

"It's absolutely unbelievable. The most disciplined person in the world, and just the hardest worker."

The shot-putter underwent surgery to her right knee in August of 2015 in a bid to have her body in peak condition to defend her Olympic champion status in Rio, and although she was edged by American Michelle Carter for gold, her brother couldn't be prouder.

"Everyone says it's disappointing about [not winning] the gold, but it’s not about the gold.

"Her being able to overcome surgeries, and just everything stacked against her she still came back and did everything she loved, and she looked like she enjoyed it.

"She just looked happy bro, just competing again. That's the best thing about it. That's a win."
