Video: Team NZ launch new boat on the water

Emirates Team NZ have set sail for the next America's Cup with the launch of their first testing boat.

The modified AC45 with be used to test design concepts as the team works towards the launch of the boat that will challenge for the Cup in 2017.

While some of their rivals have been on the water for some time, skipper and sailing programme director Glenn Ashby is comfortable with where the syndicate is placed.

"It's certainly been an extremely busy period behind the scenes, although we haven't physically been out on the water," said Ashby.

"That design phase and the engineering phase that goes on in the design office behind closed doors really is the key to success at the America's Cup itself."

The AC45 is a former Luna Rossa boat, loaned to the NZ syndicate following the Italian's withdrawal from the competition.

A number of Luna Rossa staff, including skipper Max Sirena, are now assisting the NZ campaign.
