Shot put star Tom Walsh has won the Diamond League with a monster heave that surpassed his personal best.

Walsh pulled out a throw of 22.20m on his third attempt to seal the win, topping his previous best of 22.00m he set in Paris earlier this week.

The win was enough for Walsh to claim the Diamond League title as he finished ahead of American and defending champion Joe Kovacs, who could only managed a best throw of 21.20m.

Walsh claimed a cool NZ$55,000 bonus for winning the Diamond League.

The 24-year-old is the second New Zealand athlete to win the Diamond League following Valerie Adams, who has won the event four times.
