A British rugby league player has lost a testicle after getting injured in a Grand Final match.

Paul Wood of the Warrington Wolves ruptured his testicle in the game on Saturday, when his team was defeated 26-18 by Leeds, The Telegraph reports.

The 30-year-old has now had surgery to remove the testicle, after bravely continuing to play on with the injury and speaking to media following the match.

Yesterday he tweeted about his ordeal.

“Just coming out the hospital to go home... Seriously feel like I've left something???”

Former All Black Wayne Shelford famously ripped his scrotum, leaving one testicle hanging free, in a ruck in a test match against France in 1986.
