Warriors woes all too familiar

The reviews are already underway at the Warriors after they failed to make the NRL playoffs for the fifth year running.

Sunday night's 36-24 loss to the Tigers means they are also-rans with a week still to go.

And former Kiwi and Queensland Coach Graham Lowe says it's time the Warriors stop denying that something is wrong with the clubs approach.

Forget mad, today was miserable Monday at Mount Smart, the Warriors experiencing that all too familiar feeling of another season complete without a finals appearance.

"Not a lot of words at the moment, just a huge amount of disappointment," said coach Andrew McFadden. "We just threw it away to be honest."

The Warriors wasted no time setting the tone this season, starting with three straight losses.

A mid-season revival offered hope, again coinciding with the State of Origin period, but it wasn't to be.

On reflection today - former Queensland coach Graham Lowe said aiming for the top 8 is part of the problem.

"I think the bar's set too low," said the 69-year-old.

"We found ourselves half way through the year hoping to make the top eight. Halfway through the year you should be hoping you'll still win it all."

Then there are the personnel issues - six players suspended for mixing energy drinks and prescription drugs, the departure of Konrad Hurrell and the non-selection of Tui Lolohea.

In words, I feel for them. They're in a difficult position but obviously there is something that is not right, blind freddy can tell you that.

"From the outside there's probably a bit of a structural problem."

But publically, McFadden has the support of his players.

"The last thing we need is another coach," said veteran front-rower Jacob Lillyman.

"It's been a tough year and Cappy has been tremendous through thick and thin."

Warriors CEO Jim Doyle has refused comment until the completion of the post-season review, expected to take around three weeks.

After three successful seasons McFadden will find out if it's just bye for now - ka kite ano - or haera ra.
