WATCH: Welsh rugby players rescued from overloaded lift

Seven Welsh-based rugby players have discovered just what happens when you try to pack a scrum down in a lift.

Former internationals Mike Phillips, Brian Mujati and Johnny Leota and teammates David Seymour, Paulo Odogwu, Eifion Lewis-Roberts and Halani Aulike all spent over an hour in a lift stuck between the reception and the first floor of their hotel in south-west England.

Tipping in at a total of 755kgs, over 120kgs over the lift weight limit, the players were handed bottles of water, coffee and sandwiches as they managed to wrench the doors open.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said that they sent an engineer after hearing about people being trapped.

"We received a call at 1.35pm to reports of seven people trapped in a lift between the ground and first floor.

"It was the Hilton Bath city hotel on Walcot Street. We had an engineer in attendance and they were released at 2.50pm."
