Kiwi ironman Cameron Brown has got his 2011 season off to a winning start with victory in the Whangamata round of the Contact Tri-Series.

After coming out of the water a minute-and-a-half behind the leaders, Brown hit the front with 10km to go on the bike ride.

The 38-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down, running home to beat Taranaki’s junior tri-athlete Edward Rawles by more than two minutes.

“I’m still getting stronger and faster so I’m really looking forward to next weekend’s half ironman,” says Brown.

The women’s race was won by up-and-comer Rebecca Kingsford from the Waikato, who beat New Zealand Ironman Champion Jo Lawn who was struggling with a blister on her foot.
