Windows XP users face virus risk

Microsoft is warning Windows XP users that their computers will soon be at much greater risk of getting a virus.

From April it will stop providing support for XP, including security fixes.

Microsoft estimates 377,000 PCs in New Zealand are still running the 12-year-old operating system.

Some very large corporate customers will be able to pay for support after April while they upgrade their systems.

Everyone else will have to look at upgrading their software to Windows 7 or 8, or buying new hardware.
