Gareth Morgan offers to pay for cat euthanasia

The claws of cat lovers are out like never before, since Gareth Morgan dared to suggest there can be life without cats.
The Cats To Go campaign suggests, to save our wildlife, we shouldn’t replace our cats. The man behind the campaign, Gareth Morgan, also says SPCA strays should be euthanized.
And now he is offering the SPCA money for cats they put down.
“Stop destroying New Zealand wildlife and I’ll give you $5 for each cat you put down,” he told Campbell Live.
“The SPCA is single handedly destroying our native species, they’ve got to be dealt to.”
But SPCA boss Bob Kerridge wants Mr Morgan to “butt out”.
“Don’t deprive us of the beautiful companionship individually and as a family.”
Cat lovers have raged across cyberspace, talkback has been jammed and there have been letters, editorials and cartoons addressing the issue.
Mr Kerridge says we need to “leave it to nature to take care of things”.
But will it?
A study published in the New York Times today found domestic cats in America kill four times more than previously thought.
More birds and mammals die at the mouths of cats, the report said, than from vehicle strikes, pesticides, poisons and other man-made hazards.
