The case of the stolen identity
Friday 7 Dec 2012 5:00 p.m.
Damien Genet is a 23-year-old apprentice mechanic.
He loves cars, so fixing them was a natural career path – but that career was put in jeopardy by a man who stole his identity.
“On the fifth of November, I got a phone call from the Ministry of Justice wanting to put a garnish on my wages for repayment of fines,” he says.
“They said it was for a DIC conviction – and I told them it wasn’t me.”
Damien had apprently been charged and convicted for drink driving - an offence he didn't commit.
