Since the Flight of the Conchords wrapped up their final series, Jemaine Clement has starred in a series of US comedy films.
The latest, Dinner for Schmucks will be released in New Zealand early next month.
To impress his sadistic superiors, a young go-getter must find a loser for them to laugh at with the promise of glory for whoever finds the oddest odd ball
Dinner for Schmucks also features a familiar face playing self absorbed artist Kieran Vollard.
"He's very sexy which is against type for me; he's a man which is typecasting for me," Clement says.
"Kieran’s work is a melding of beast and man and woman and man and woman and beast all together; it's very confronting and challenging," Clement says.
"Do you have any idea what it's like to be up to your elbow in a zebra's vagina and feel new life pumping?"
Despite Clement's cameo Dinner for Schmucks has not gone down well with critics; some pointing out it doesn't compare to French farce, the dinner game on which it is based.
Then again, no one ever criticises French films for fear of looking like a philistine; where many aren't brave enough to praise the American remake for fear of also being branded philistines.
However, reviewers in New Zealand haven't been offered preview screenings of Dinner for Schmucks ahead of its opening here in a few weeks, which may well mean it may be a meal best savoured on DVD.
