Representatives from Corrections and Serco will address media about the $8 million payment Serco is making to Corrections after it took over running one of Auckland’s prisons last year.

In July last year, Corrections decided to use a clause in the contract with the private operator to step in and take over the day-to-day operations at Auckland Central Remand Prison.

The prison operator faced scrutiny last year with the emergence of cell-block 'fight club' videos and allegations of serious assaults and inappropriate behaviour.

Corrections Minister Judith Collins said an agreement had been reached under which Corrections will continue to run the prison, with Serco providing the personnel at cost until the end of its contract in March 2017.
