A new study has found that climate change denial is being taught by around a third of all teachers in the United States.

The study, of more than 1500 science teachers, was done by the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) and was published this week in Science.

"At least one in three teachers bring climate change denial into the classroom, claiming that many scientists believe climate change is not caused by humans" NCSE programs and policy director Josh Rosenau says in a media release.

The study found that the reasons for this can include pressure from parents, a lack of knowledge about the science of climate change and a lack of awareness of the level of scientific agreement on the issue.

But the results also suggest that teachers want to learn more about how to teach the science of climate change, finding that most teachers would like more professional development in this area.

"Even half the teachers who deny the scientific consensus on climate change say they would take this training," the NCSE's Dr. Minda Berbeco says.
