Aboriginal man combats racism with a cuppa

A Perth man's courteous response to racism has been praised and shared by thousands on social media.

Jarred Wall, an indigenous Australian, was having lunch in Fremantle while two women nearby were talking about Aboriginal people.

"Food was great but to our misfortune we inadvertently heard two elderly ladies, seated next to us, chatting about aboriginals. The conversation was less than distasteful with words like assimilation thrown around willy nilly," he wrote in a post on Instagram.

"I could have unleashed a tirade of abuse but that wouldn't have helped. Instead, I did something nice and bought them a pot of tea and left a little note on the receipt. Maybe these ladies will be a little wiser and think before they speak. Hopefully there won't be a next time!"

On the receipt, he wrote: "Enjoy the tea! Compliments of the 2 aboriginals sitting next to you on table 26," finishing with a smiley face.

Mr Wall shared his Instagram photo of the note on Facebook, which has since drawn more than 20,000 reactions and more than 2000 shares.

Commenters congratulated Mr Wall's kind rebuke. Ian Man said: "For a people's to understand love, respect and compassion they must be lead with example. This was a perfect example [sic]."
