A 23-year-old British woman has died in southern Spain after a bungee accident.

Kleyo De Abreu jumped from a modern bridge popular with bungee jumpers in Lanjaron, but crashed into an ancient Roman bridge underneath.

The London fashion student was on holiday visiting relatives.

"My daughter is gone and nothing is going to bring her back, but I have spoken to the family and we are all on the same page - we don't want something like this to happen again," her father told media.

"Although it is too early to draw any conclusions about the circumstances of the death, one of the lines of inquiry is that there was a miscalculation with the rope," a spokesperson for the Spanish police said.

Jumpers normally fall about 20m before the rope ends, while the bridge's total drop is 80m, reports the BBC.
