Aussie bloke punches kangaroo in the face to free his dog

Incredible footage of a man punching a kangaroo which had trapped his dog in a headlock deep in the Australian outback is causing a storm on social media.

The video, which appears to have been taken from a television programme as it has narration, shows a man looking for his dog on the back of a ute.

When he spots the canine, he notices it's unable to move as it's stuck in the fierce grip of a kangaroo - an animal known to be strong and aggressive when threatened.

The man jumps off the back of the vehicle and tries to call the dog away from the kangaroo, but realises it's being held too tightly and that the situation requires his intervention.

As he approaches, the kangaroo just misses with a clawed kick to the dog before letting it go and going toe-to-toe with its owner.

The two square up as though they are in a boxing ring, both adopting sparring positions, before the man uses his superior reach to land a brutal blow on the snout of his marsupial opponent.

The kangaroo looks stunned, and stands shocked for a few seconds before the two run off in separate directions - the man with his dog in tow.

The video has astounded viewers across the world, with Twitter users sharing their amazement online.

The video has been watched 3.6 million times since it was posted on Facebook by Steven Stubenrauch on Sunday.
