An Australian radio host has been suspended indefinitely after she made a joke about the Dreamworld tragedy.

Hobart's 7HOFM presenter Anna Dare made the remark during a "secret sound" segment on Thurday. When asked to guess what a sound was, she answered she didn't like the "violent sounding noise".

"It's not getting stuck in a conveyor belt at a theme park is it? Too soon?"

Her colleagues were audibly shocked at her remarks, and Ms Dare quickly tried to backtrack, saying, "That's what it sounds like to me when I first heard it. I don't like it."

Cindy Low, 42, and Kate Goodchild, 32, her brother Luke Dorsett, 35, and his partner Roozbeh Araghi, 38, were killed when a raft they were in on the Thunder River Rapids ride flipped backwards on Tuesday. Ms Low's son and Ms Goodchild's daughter survived.

7HOFM CEO Grant Cameron attempted to play down Ms Dare's remarks.

"We sincerely apologise to our listeners, the broader community and everyone affected by the Dreamworld tragedy," he said.

"This was a dreadful mistake and the announcer is devastated at such a lapse. As employers, we must also consider her wellbeing."

Ms Dare has been taken off air, and will be offered counselling. There was no word on when she might return.
