2012 has been year Britain will never forget, with huge stories breaking across the economy, sport, the media, and of course the royals.

The London Olympics and Paralympics have left their mark, and will leave a legacy both as a sporting event and as a triumph for women’s rights, with the 2012 Games marking the first time every competing country had female athletes.

The British have a knack for such large-scale events, and of course for pomp and ceremony, which we saw a lot of for the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

Royals will continue to dominate the news next year as Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, look forward to the birth of their first child.
