The trial of a man charged with the murder of a Napier man in Queensland in 2014 has been adjourned.

Campbell Paterson's dismembered body was found stuffed in a chilly bin in rural Edmonton, southeast of Cairns.

David Leslie Hickson was charged with murder and interfering with a corpse.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge of interfering with a corpse and not guilty to murder when he appeared in court for the beginning of his trial.

Mr Paterson's family have flown to Cairns for the trial, which will resume tomorrow morning.
