The gate to the Dachau concentration camp has been found in Norway, after being stolen two years ago.

The gate became a symbol of the Nazis' crimes against humanity, with their slogan "Arbeit macht frei", or "Work sets you free", on the front.

More than 200,000 people were held in the camp, and more than 40,000 prisoners died inside.

Norwegian police received an anonymous tip alerting them to the gate's location. Local newspaper Bygdannytt reported the gate was found in the settlement of Ytre Arna, north of Bergen.

Bavarian police said there was a "high probability it is the iron gate stolen in Dachau".

The gates will be returned to Germany, and the thieves have yet to be arrested.
